The Tog Blog

Blogging, rambling, chatting, or just somewhere to rant.  Here is where it is.

A place to keep up to date with what is going on in my world.

Hello,

I have recently taken on the role of Regional Officer of the Northern Region of the RPS.

I have been behind the lens myself for 44 years (despite telling myself that I am not old enough).

I joined the RPS with high hopes of attending events, seminars, exhibitions, walks and more, only to find that the Northern Region was in a state of serious disrepair and that there was nothing going on.

I made several enquiries and was met with a wall of virtual silence, well not quite, I was met with a wall of friendly people who all tactfully informed me that there was nothing going on, there had been a raft of resignations, and changes and they had no committee nor was there any signs of there being a committee.

A bit disgruntled, I joined several of the SIG groups to see what they could offer, and they were fab, but not always ‘up north’ which meant it was too costly or impractical for me to attend.

When I saw the advertisement for the RO position, I jumped at the chance.  A flurry of volunteers appeared and with the help of Carol from Yorkshires documentary group, we formed a committee and have not paused for breath since, our first event is about to be announced and we have a list of many future possibilities, we are revamping our social media and collaborating with other groups, camera clubs and yourselves.

We live in a wonderful part of the world, with no end of choices for photographers, whether you are a nature and wildlife fan, a cityscape shooter, a coastal creative, a studio dweller or a lover of all genres.  We would love you to join us on our journey, perhaps gain a qualification if that is your wish or just met fellow photographers who will always be available for assistance, critiques and advice.

We aim to put the Northern Region back on the map and make it a welcoming group who will work within the framework of the RPS.

My personal aim is to create a friendly, informal atmosphere whilst still acknowledging the serious side of appreciating photography.
